Do I Need Professional Debt Management?
It's important to remember that there's nothing a debt management company can do that you can't do for yourself. Nothing.
All they do is explain to your creditors that you're struggling to make your repayments, and that it may be better for all concerned if some arrangement can be made to help you repay your debt. That way, your creditors stand a chance of getting their money back rather than seeing it lost altogether through bankruptcy, in the worst of cases.
Negotiation with Creditors
That being said, if you're already highly stressed because of your debt problems, picking up the phone to negotiate will probably seem like something you just can't handle on your own.
That's where a dispassionate, experienced debt negotiator can come in. As an impartial 'observer' of the situation, a debt manager will have the experience to be able to negotiate a better settlement for you, and you won't have to deal with the stress and worry of negotiating with each of your creditors individually.
Simpler Repayment Schemes
Also, your debt manager will coordinate the whole repayment process: once your repayment terms have been agreed, you'll make a single monthly repayment to the management company who will then distribute the funds among your creditors. This takes a huge weight off your shoulders, as you're no longer juggling bills deciding which gets paid first.
